Consulting and mentoring small to medium business

Our Approach

My Approach

For your startup business, we will meet, discuss the immediate priorities for your operational blueprint and focus on hitting the ground running and get started on a platform for growth.

For your existing business, we will cover a quick and simple audit of the business, find out where the crunch points are currently, and focus on the areas we can apply some immediate traction.

In both cases, we start by (re)defining your vision and clarifying where you would like to see yourself and your business in 12 months, 3 years or perhaps longer.

Our Story

My Story

My story began in the '90s where a year-long stint in a London pub showed me that good hospitality service, product and systems were nowhere near new concepts. This business had a rich 200-year history of local community customer engagement.

On my return to Australia, I deep dived into all areas of hospitality training in a large, well organised and thriving restaurant.

The Stokegroup was a high energy hospitality group with multiple venues in its portfolio by the time I left.

In my five year role at their marquee St Kilda beachfront bistro and fine diner, The Stokehouse, it's estimated that 1 million customers were served by our team.

A relocation from Melbourne to Sydney saw a short stint on Woolloomooloo Wharf at Manta, before I took the operations manager role with Bill Granger's Bills and Bills2.

A keen eye for detail, Bill was, and still is an inspiration to stylish and 'fine' breakfast and brunch service with consistency as a critical framework.

In 2003, with the guidance of the Toga Hospitality group, I saw an opportunity to open my own restaurant.

Cafe Morso on the Jones Bay Wharf in Pyrmont was born and continues to be a highly regarded waterfront a la carte breakfast and lunch restaurant to this day.

The daytime structure at Morso was built around a mix of working people and local residents. This allowed me to also develop a sideline event business that catered to small to medium-sized private or corporate groups. Morso Events operated exclusive-use-only and nighttime based events that were fully catered and service by the in house team.

About half of these were private weddings and birthdays and the balance were corporates looking for a unique offering.

Always a cut above the ubiquitous function room style of the 'big' event industry.

As at 2018, successfully completed events in this bespoke style numbered well above 1000.

Recently, after 15 years, I decide to sell Cafe Morso and look to new opportunities.

I reside in Rozelle, Sydney with my wife Melinda, and my two adult children.

Melinda is a Dr. of Chinese Medicine and our other business called 'Melinda Webb - The Birthing Webb' focuses on women's health mostly in the pregnancy space.
